Message from the President

Hopefully, you were referred by one of our members. If not, I want to welcome you to an interesting concept in Kayaking. Houston Association of Sea Kayakers (HASK) conceived in 2000, HASK became an active Social and Paddle presence in the south. The experience level among our members is collectively hundreds of years. Our style of Kayaking is terrific exercise for the body and mind. We believe that it encourages good health and longevity. In fact, we have active members in their 80s!

Sea Kayakers enjoy paddling in a variety of locations and conditions. From Coastal Kayak Surfing, Ocean and Bays to Coastal Tributaries. It doesn’t stop there. Sea Kayaking or Kayak Touring is the best way to experience the world of water in which we live. HASK members paddle Rivers, Lakes and Bayous all over the nation. We run multi-day trips; camping on islands and shore lines, continuing on the next day, sometimes five or more days at a time!  We have a collection of very experienced Trip Leaders, some of which are ACA (American Canoe Association) and BCU (British Canoe Union) Certified Trip Leaders and Instructors.

Our emphasis is on Safety first. We have a designated Safety Director to help watch over events and encourage training. We hold numerous focused training events by ACA Instructors to encourage our members to challenge their capabilities and build the confidence that they need to enjoy the sport to its fullest.

At times, we host off-the-water social events, allowing our members to visit, build new friendships and ideas and experiences. We also host informal teaching events such as Kayak Camping, Navigation and Boat customization, to name a few. Watch the schedule for our General Meetings, where local talent and professionals present interesting and informative “mini-seminars” for the membership.

You are invited to paddle with us as a guest before joining. Just check our schedule for Level 1 (L1) Events and join the trip as a non-member guest. I hope that you join HASK and become a part of our family.

My mission this year is to grow our club's membership and enthusiasm by encouraging more Trips, Engaging General Meetings, Social Events and Classes!
