About this event
A jewel on the Texas mid coast. Roughly 200 miles southwest of Houston. The bays and passes in the area offer undisturbed shorelines studded with mangroves and quiet coves to study wading birds and sea turtles. Perhaps you can cast a line for a tasty redfish. The water in Aransas Bay and South Bay is very clear with healthy sea grass bottoms.
It's a 4 mile paddle from the put-in at Fin & Feather Bait Camp and Boat Ramp to the Quarantine shell shoreline campsite. The proposed day paddle is a 9.3 mile trek to and back from the Lydia Ann Lighthouse. And of course, a 4-mile paddle back to the take-out when we break camp.
We can plan meals and stuff.

Average Historical Temperatures: Upper & Lower 50's F. Winds, 7.5 mph avg. We'll call it by Nov. 28.
The planned campsite is on the Quarantine Shoreline. The beach is comprised of eroded oyster and clam shells. Fishing is encouraged. Have a license please.
Here is the itinerary:
Thursday Dec. 3rd: Meet in Rockport or Aransas Pass. Stay in booked accomodations. Here we can group up, make dinner and hang out. Of course you can drive in on Friday morning.
Saturday: Paddle 9.3 miles round-trip to the Lydia Ann Lighthouse ...or circumnavigate Mud Island, weather depending. ...OR
Hazards -- We will be crossing the commercial boating lanes with large boat traffic. Expect to intercept a number of pleasure boats. The bay can intensify choppy conditions. Oyster reefs have been encountered in the past, mostly in Lighthouse Lakes. Submerged reefs can usually be seen as a darker area.
